Chase excellence and success will follow! The theme of 3 idiots has been the philosophy of Vinod Chopra Films since its inception.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra studied film making at the Film & Television Institute, Pune. His first documentary, An Encounter With Faces, highlighted the plight of India’s destitute children. It was nominated for an Oscar in the Documentary Short Subject category in 1978.
Since then, Vinod has directed genre-defining films like Khamosh, Parinda, 1942 – A Love Story, Kareeb, Mission Kashmir, Eklavya – The Royal Guard and most recently Shikara. Of these, Parinda and Eklavya – The Royal Guard were nominated as India’s official entries to the Oscars in the Best Foreign Film category in 1989 and 2007 respectively.
Vinod Chopra Films has also produced several path breaking films including Rajkumar Hirani’s Munna Bhai MBBS, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, 3 idiots and PK (co-produced with RHF), Pradeep Sarkar's Parineeta and India's first mainstream commercial LGBTQ film Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga directed by Shelly Chopra, among others. It is noteworthy that several present successful directors, actors and technicians of Indian cinema started their respective journeys with Vinod Chopra Films.
Vinod made his English language directorial debut in Hollywood in 2015 with Broken Horses, an epic thriller set in the shadows of the US-Mexico gang wars.
Vinod's latest directorial Shikara is the first film on the forced migration of half a million Kashmiri Hindus from Kashmir in the 1990s. In a first for cinema globally, more than 4000 real Kashmiri refugees were directed by Vinod to recreate the events of the exodus that took place 30 years ago.
In our cinematic journey of over 40 years, Vinod Chopra Films has won several national and international accolades for its films. Our consistent focus on quality and relentless pursuit of excellence has made Vinod Chopra Films one of the most respected film studios in the country.
